Story
In January 2019, Mum (Trudy) had a seizure. A few months of uncertainty followed before she was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma (the nastiest brain tumour) in May. Surgery, chemo, & radiation followed, but there’s no cure and survival rates are around 12 months.
Mum died in Feb 2020 at 54 years old.
Now 6 years on, we are no clearer on why or how this cancer forms, and haven’t made any real advances on improving quality & quantity of life for those who are diagnosed. The Mark Hughes Foundation has two purposes - they fund research to get to the bottom of this awful disease, and they fund the amazing MHF Nurses who provide much needed support to patients and their families as they navigate treatment.
Trude was one of the most generous, fun, and likeable people. The world shines a little less bright without her around - and it’s probably a bit quieter too. With the Long Lunch for Trude in 2019 and our Trekking for Trude climb up Mt Kosciusko in 2024, we've now raised over $75,000 for the Mark Hughes Foundation, in Trude's name.
If you can, I'd love your support to keep that total climbing well into six figures, and to help raise some cash to continue to fund the amazing nurses & maybe one day, get the breakthrough that tells us why or how this happens. More importantly, how to increase the quality & quantity of survival rates so that a diagnosis doesn’t automatically mean a death sentence.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support.
